The Introductory Assignment / Questionnaire

At the beginning of each course you should give your students an Introductory Assignment / Questionnaire. This assignment is just a list of questions that you ask your students to answer. The reason we make this an assignment is to ensure all of the students participate, if it is not a required assignment then participation is minimal. The grading of the assignment should be pass/fail or only a few points should be attached.

The purpose of this assignment is to:

  3. What do you want to do for work when you graduate?
  4. Is this a required course, elective, just taking it because you’re interested in the subject matter?
  5. If it is a required course, is it a general education requirement or major requirement?
  6. Have you taken a similar course before?
  7. What do you expect to get out of this course?
  8. How do you think this course will relate to your life and the “real world” as a whole?
  9. Do you currently work?
  10. Do you work in the field you are studying? If not, what field?
  11. Do you have your own computer or access to one?
  12. Do you have internet access?
  13. What is your computer/internet/technology level?
  14. What are you passionate about?
  15. What are your interests, hobbies?
  16. Tell me something about yourself.
